So with a little delay, I have finally managed to see the Sex and the City 2 movie... I am a huge fan of the series, I still regularly rewatch the episodes and (not ashamed to admit it) know some the dialogues by heart. I anticipated the release of the first movie like crazy and it exceeded all my expectations. The second movie - not so much....
As much as it is meant to celebrate 'getting older in style', to be honest, the movie just made me even more scared of getting old than I was before!! Lets deal with first things first - where the hell is New York?? New York, as the creators of the series put it, was the 5th character.. I think one of the reasons I love SATC so much is because it is set in New York (I mean lets face it, I even struggle through the ever plastic show The City because it is set in NY). They should've just called it Sex and the Desert... at least it would not have been misleading!
Secondly, Samantha's sexual escapades (or lack thereof) are getting too old (pun intended). Thirdly, the script was very very poor... Somehow, the dialogues went from 'witty', 'funny' and 'daring' to 'predictable', 'bland' and plain 'boring'... I think I rolled my eyes at some of the dialogues at least 3 times during the movie.
Finally, the movie was oversaturated by blatant promos and ads for everything from watches to cars... to countries (Abu-Dhabi anyone?!). All in all, it was sad to see one of my favourite things in life (yes, you heard me - not just favourite movies, favourite things) be cheapened and stereotyped into what essentially ended up being just another chick-flick...
You know what's another thing I realised about getting old? That when it comes to getting old, I am in fact very traditional... I really hope that by the time I hit 50+ I am no longer running around town trying to get laid and stuffing myself with yams to keep me looking younger... I do, however, very much hope that I will have an abundance of other stereotypes in my life.. like a man I love, a fire place and a cosy house full of photos of children, grandchildren, graduations, weddings, soccer matches....
I mean... afterall... what's so bad about traditions anyway?!

hehe, i haven't had a chance to watch the movie yet, but love watching the re-runs on tv. i was a bit young to watch when they were originally on, so most are new to me, but i now quote often from the show! hehe.
and i agree, whats wrong with traditions? i will still watch the movie when it comes on dvd ... because i just cant help myself ... but from what i have heard, will have the same feelings as you :-p
Also, thanks for the lovely comment on my blog x
Ha ha, I don't have the intention to go see it at the movies. I'll wait untill it will appear on tv. And I'm also not afraid of getting older, as long as you grow old beautifully and gracefully, wiser, more intelligent, why should anyone be scared? It's part of life, just enjoy every stage in life to the fullest, and move on.
I haven't see the movie, but I loved the serie ;) The four girl are so lovely!!
Wow. What a review. Hillarious.
I felt the same way about the orginal tv series and differently about the movies. they should quit now while they are still ahead otherwise they in danger of overkill.
gorgeous post...nice blog

I don't think traditions are that bad! I also expect to have that kind of things you talk about one day.
Apart from that I haven't seen the film yet, guess I'll have go to on my own!!
have a nice day!
I haven't even seen the first, but I can tell you that the previews did not make me wanna watch it. The series however is big in my life, and something I watch ..well daily.

thank you all for the lovely comments :)
Oh, dear, it's like you read my mind and wrote a blog post about it. I have to agree with everything that you have said, especially the lack of NYC. The funny thing is they didn't even film in Abu Dhabi, they filmed it in Morocco.
